Across centuries, a mysterious ancient chancla—dropped from the foot of a crucified man—passes through empires, plagues, inquisitions, and miracles, causing bizarre supernatural chaos wherever it goes. Ultimately, it ends up in a convent, where a baby girl witnesses its power during an exorcism. As the priest grows old and approaches death, he reveals to the now-adult Maria that the chancla has chosen her for a destiny she doesn’t yet understand.
